So as you know, Instagram and Facebook experienced a MAJOR outage yesterday and of course, PEOPLE WERE FREAKING OUT!
Freaking Out? Why?
According to a study by Forbes, 93% of marketers use social media to reach out to their customers and leads.
Social media has definitely helped brands and influencers build a following, bring awareness, and sell products. Most people use either or both Instagram and Facebook to make money and advertise and that’s it.
What The Outage Taught Us.
But this was a lesson that we shouldn’t put all of our eggs in one basket.
Social Media should be used as a tool to enhance sells, not solely to make sells. Therefore, when a site has an outage, you can be worry free knowing that there is still another way for your audience to reach you.
What I Learned From The Outage
I was also affected by the outage. All of my 3rd party apps that I schedule my content on did not work. I wasn’t worried, I figured I would reschedule all my content for today. I periodically checked to see if the sites were up and kept producing content for the rest of the week.
My productivity for the day did not change. I was okay.
What I learned from the outage is how important an EMAIl LIST is! If I had my followers email addresses, I could’ve still pushed my content out and not had to have rescheduled anything for the following day. So my goal is to grow my email list and keep in touch with my subscribers via email.
I also should have taken the opportunity to focus on Twitter since it was not down 🙂
It’s Okay To Be Old Fashion…
We have to keep up with the trends, but also know that if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. And emails were not down! Sells and branding could have reached your audience in a different capacity.
So let’s not be sad on missed opportunities and learn from this experience.
Feel free to comment and look out for my emails and if you want to be added to the list, comment your email below!
Best,
Miss Nikki
